First American Capital Management Group Inc., a full service equipment finance company founded and chaired by John Herrera since 1991. Company became the largest mobile equipment finance vendor for General Motors for ten years and still holds residual equipment interests with the company. Business at one point had twelve employees and sales representatives nationally.
First American Securities Inc., a Nevada corporation that was one of the first Native owned broker dealers in the nation. John was a founder and chairman of the board. Business was conducted with corporate treasurers, non-profit entities and tribal governments. The business was sold in 2000 and remains in the brokerage business.
Western Bank Corporation, a regional banking business in Northern Minnesota. John has served as an outside director for the past two years.
Value Growth Asset LLC, This firm specializes in asset management. As a member of the board of governors John's input has helped the company develop during its inception and through expansion cycles.
Tribal Boards
South Metro Federal Credit Union chartered and located on the Shakopee Mdewakanton Sioux Community. John Herrera assisted in the chartering process and stayed on the board for the period of time until the credit union proved it could be a success. The credit union has grown over the years and became an important part of the community.
Warner Industrial Corporation owned by the Shakopee Mdewakanton Sioux Community, John served as the ex-official member on behalf of the tribal chairman. The company located in Minneapolis, Minnesota distributed industrial solvents and cleaning supplies.
Leech Lake Northern Lights Task Force, Appointed member of a committee of the Leech Lake Reservation Council charged with structuring the Band's largest casino facility. Instrumental in structuring the financial aspects of the project which came in on budget and has grown into a premier northern casino property.
Leech Lake Tribal College, Member of the college's board of trustees for three years. Assisted in a number of expansion projects and budgetary issues as a past treasurer.
